Sale! 15th - 19th in the shop

One of the great things about working in a fabric boutique is coming up with fun and useful ways to use the beautiful new fabrics we get in. When Nicey Jane by Heather Bailey arrived I knew immediately that I needed to make something sweet and girly. What could be better than a little twirly skirt and an applique T-shirt to go with it?

There are many twirly skirt patterns and tutorials on the web. This one is based on the free tutorial at House on Hill Road, but with some minor modifications to suit my "model".

The applique T was made using double sided Steam-A-Seam in the medium weight. I simply ironed the Steam-A-Seam over the floral image, cut it out closely, and ironed it onto the T. You can go one step further and machine stitch around it if you like, or if you're careful with your laundering you can leave it as is.

Christmas is almost here and we're having a sale to celebrate! All fabric is 15% off from December 15th - 19th! Christmas fabrics are 20% off.
The shop will be closed December 24th - January 4th for Christmas and New Year's.

New Fabrics are Arriving!

It's a happy time. Not just because the holiday season is officially here, we're happy at Fabric Crush because new fabric collections are arriving!

The absolutely gorgeous new collection from Heather Bailey, Nicey Jane, arrived in the shop this morning. I can't think of a better way to spend a morning than unpacking new fabric while listening to my favorite tunes on the iPod.

Taking photos of these prints and accurately capturing their colors is a little difficult. They look a little washed-out compared to what they look like in person.

This collection is reminiscent of her Freshcut collection, but with updated dots and florals. The color palette is a little more soft and sophisticated
.

Also new in the shop is the Wild Thyme collection by Carolyn Gavin. Carolyn is a popular stationery designer from Canada and designs the Ecojot line.

We're expecting the arrival of Denyse Schmidt's Hope Valley line any day now. Can't wait to see what they're like in person!
Hope you can stop by and see all the new lovelies in person!

Directions to the shop

After having many customers come from out of town I thought I'd write a little post about how to find the shop. I love GPS and online mapping, but sometimes it just helps to have someone explain it.

First off, we are located on Viewmont Way West. Not West Viewmont Way West (yep, that really exists) as many a GPS would have you believe.

The closest North/South cross street is 34th Avenue West.

Here's an easy way to get here.

If you are coming from downtown Seattle take the Magnolia exit off of Elliot Avenue West (right after you pass Taco Time and Starbucks).

You are now on the Magnolia Bridge. Head all the way up the bridge and continue on the same street, winding past the Magnolia Park, until you hit a 4-way Stop at Howe Street.

Continue straight through the stop, staying on the same road. You will come to a Y in the road (big new brick condos in front of you). Stay to the left and come up the hill (gas station on your right).

We are about two blocks up on your right hand side.

You've gone too far if you pass the old stone Episcopal Church on your left.

Hope that helps! Remember, you can always call us at (206) 432-9929 and we'll walk you through it.

NWSource.com article

Recently, Fabric Crush was featured as the Daily Find on NWSource.com, which is owned by the Seattle Times. They did a lovely article about the shop and what you'll find here.

Here's a link so you can read for yourself!

Halloween is over and now we're heading straight into Christmas sewing season. Personally I've been planning my Christmas sewing for months. I like to sew all sorts of holiday decorations, tree skirts, pillows, ornaments, lots of things!

In the shop we've got lots of great gift ideas you can sew up in very little time. Items that can take as little as two hours from start to finish.

A lovingly made pillow makes a great gift.

This checkbook cover by Keykalou patterns is a great personal gift.

For the sewist in your life you can always put together a pack of fat quarters or give a beautiful sewing book.

We hope you can come in and get inspired to create something by hand this holiday season!
